Announcements

  • Please be conscious of driving in and out of Proctor's Field House Lane as we have two dormitories and residences that require students and faculty to cross the road multiple times throughout the day and night.  The speed limit is 10 mph due to the volume of pedestrians and blind spots around the curve by the Dining Commons.  Thank you!

2025 KYHA Golf Tournament

Alumni Donation - Tournament Site - Silent Auction

KYHA Alum, Parent and Friends

On Thursday, August 14, 2025 we will be hosting a golf tournament at Lake Sunapee Country Club.  This will be a major annual fundraiser for the KYHA program which began in the late 1970’s at the artificial rink at Proctor Academy.  Some of you may have been there for the opening practice when the kids showed up in a variety of gear and struggled to skate from one side of the rink to the other.  The locker rooms were octagonal “yurts” in the parking lot and the weather was cold!  Several years later the compressor system for the rink caught fire and the hockey program was in jeopardy.  KYHA parents came to the rescue and agreed to secure a $100,000 loan to help Proctor rebuild the rink and get the program back on its feet.  To pay back the loan KYHA started a fundraiser known as the “Auction Dance.”  This event was held in March and featured an auctioneer and parent, Emory Sanders, and his staff of willing helpers.  A good time was had by all and by the end of the night KYHA had enough money to pay back the note plus pay for ice time, uniforms and coaching.  The annual cost for the kids in the program was affordable and the close relationship between KYHA and Proctor Academy was further strengthened.

While not as big as many other programs, KYHA has held its own and produced a number of kids who wound up playing prep and college hockey.  One KYHA alum skated on the US Women’s Olympic team and another made it to the NHL!  In 2020 Covid hit and severely impacted KYHA as the Proctor rink was closed to outsiders for two years for health safety reasons.  Our program suffered greatly, and our numbers dropped.  Starting in 2023, however, the number of skaters began to rebound, particularly at the Mite and Squirt levels, and enrollment now totals close to 100 boys and girls.

To maintain our growth, preserve our low tuition level, and provide strong coaching the KYHA board is reaching out to alums and friends for their support.  We are looking for help in raising $3,500 to underwrite the “Gold Sponsorship” for the tournament and ask that you consider making a donation to the cause.  This can be done either online (see below QR code and link) or via mail.  And if you have KYHA photos from days gone by, please send them too.

Last, but not least, the Silent Auction has returned!  There are some familiar favorites along with a nice selection of new items up for bid – with more being added daily.
